City Council thanks emigrants and informs them of the division of the funds raised
Nova Sintra City, May 7, 2025 (Bravanews) - The Brava City Council has publicly expressed its deep gratitude to Brava emigrants in the United States for their remarkable fundraising in support of those affected by the fire that hit the Municipal Market last March.

In a press release issued today, the municipality praised the initiative led by José Lobo, affectionately known as Djo Lobo, who mobilized the Brava diaspora in the USA in a significant act of solidarity. The action demonstrates the strong and unshakeable bond that unites the children of Brava to their homeland, even when they are far away.
The town hall highlighted this gesture as an inspiring example of the diaspora's dedication and commitment to the island's well-being. The municipality also pointed out that this initiative marks a new phase in the relationship between Brava and its emigrants, based on proximity, appreciation and mutual respect.
According to the receipts presented, the amounts raised were carefully distributed: 50% will go directly to support the people who suffered losses as a result of the fire, and the remaining 50% will go towards efforts to rebuild the Municipal Market, a vital space for the local economy and community.
The Brava City Council emphasized that this act of solidarity is living proof that unity is strength and that, together, Brava grows and becomes stronger, both on and off the island. The press release concluded with a message of hope and unity: "United by history, culture and love of the land, we remain steadfast in building a better future for all".
